Meet Scott
Senior Vice President
As president of Liberty IT Solutions, now part of Booz Allen, Scott Hanawalt has been instrumental in building the company’s culture and capabilities to sustain rapid growth and drive transformation across the federal IT ecosystem.
Scott has 25 years of experience in the healthcare industry serving major brands. Prior to joining Liberty, he held several leadership roles in which he worked closely with healthcare systems and providers to enhance the patient experience and improve clinical outcomes. He has also developed strategy and tactical marketing plans for healthcare and medical device companies. Scott’s career has included work with Merck, 3M, and Phonak.
Scott holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.B.A. from Villanova University.
What makes you excited to come to work every day? It’s really the incredible group of dedicated people I work with and the big impact that I see them bringing to veterans and society at large. I’m energized and inspired by the frontiers my team pushes through on a daily basis and motivated by the innovative outcomes we deliver together.
What is the biggest opportunity in government IT today? We're living at a transformative moment where we can help bridge the gap between commercial-sector innovation and the federal space. I see an immense opportunity to change people’s lives with as-a-service and cloud-based solutions delivered quickly and economically. I'm passionate about connecting veterans to services through the ease of technology and optimizing the efficiency of federal systems.
What’s special about the type of work you do? Veterans have unique health needs, and we want to help provide them with the most comprehensive and accessible care possible. Human-centered design, which puts veterans at the focus of our development process from project initiation to closure, builds solutions for their specific challenges. Tailoring services to the user, rather than expecting the user to adapt to services, leads to wider adoption and a more positive experience.
How does your work change the world? We know that lines of code can change lives because we’ve seen it happen. Our teams had prototyped and demonstrated a new version of a legacy vaccine-tracking application. Then, when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, our client could rely on us for a ready-to-implement solution.
