Joseph “Joey” Moreland is a leader in Booz Allen's health business, specializing in large, agile system delivery, digital transformation, and modern software delivery practices. As chief engineer of the Charleston Digital Hub, he leads a team of engineering and IT professionals solving some of the most challenging issues facing the nation's veterans.
Joey joined Booz Allen's Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) team 10 years ago to support the IT modernization program. Since then, he has helped the VA move to a paperless claims process, created the National Work Queue, and enabled third-party medical examinations, all while modernizing the VA’s underlying technology.
Before joining Booz Allen, Joey was a technical manager/architect for Geocent and chief architect on the Mississippi Automated System Project. Prior to that, he worked for Caterpillar Inc.
Joey’s team received the firm’s highest honor, the Booz Allen Hamilton Excellence Award, for using web-based, paperless processing to help the VA significantly reduce its backlog of claims and the wait times for veteran claim decisions. He’s also received the FedHealthIT Innovation Award and a Technical Achievement Award from the Society of Asian Scientists and Engineers.
