In the November 2014 cover story of Inside Counsel magazine, Booz Allen President and Chief Operating Officer Horacio Rozanski and General Counsel Nancy Laben talk about the important relationship between a company’s CEO and General Counsel, and the business benefits that can arise from that. Rozanski noted that there is a strong business case for placing women in senior management roles, such the top legal position.
“I think it is essential for a company to be successful to build diverse leadership as well as a workforce that gives them access to the best talent,” he said. “We wanted a diverse slate of candidates (when we hired our general counsel); we did not want to look at just one type. We insisted on that. When you get a diverse slate, you can actually pick the best person for the job. When you don’t force that to happen, the path of least resistance will bring you candidates that all look like each other.”
