Meet Charlie
Vice President
As a consulting leader within Booz Allen’s aerospace business, Charlie Miller leads engagements focused on enterprise-scale business and digital transformation, and strategy-focused consulting. He also develops innovative solutions to add to our overall strategy and management consulting service offerings.
With experience spanning the defense, civilian, and commercial industries, Charlie provides guidance for a variety of organizations. He leads transformation efforts for Air Force major weapon systems clients. Before his current role, he led design teams supporting Air Force enterprise transformation, orchestrated the stand-up of the Air Force Installation and Mission Support Center, and led improvement initiatives for the Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center. In addition, he designed transformation initiatives for the Air Force Personnel community and led the redesign of the Air Force’s installation-level contracting organization.
Prior to his work with Air Force clients, Charlie led strategy and transformation engagements with many federal clients, including the Department of Energy, the Department of Justice, the Office of the Secretary of Defense, and the Federal Drug Administration.
Before he joined Booz Allen in 2000, Charlie applied strategy and financial improvement methodologies for civilian agencies and military organizations in KPMG’s federal consulting practice. He began his career focused on IT strategy for the Advisory Board Company.
Charlie has an M.B.A. from the George Washington University and a B.A. in history from Franklin and Marshall College. He holds professional certifications in strategy development, innovation and design thinking, advanced analytics, organizational design, and managed change.
What makes you excited to come to work every day? I get to work with smart and motivated people who are truly committed to our clients. I’m driven most by the camaraderie that develops when a high-performing team comes together and solves a truly challenging problem.
What’s a lesson you learned growing up, and how is it still relevant to you today? One lesson that sticks with me is that “everything is a people business.” We’re often faced with complicated tasks or need to find compromise with someone who holds a different perspective. I remind myself that we’re all trying to do the best we can each day. By creating strong, meaningful connections, I hope to make that process a little easier and learn something new about someone along the way.
What are the most pressing needs for the federal clients you work with at Booz Allen? Most organizations I work with face increasing budget pressures and uncertain or declining budgets. At the same time, they recognize they must react and perform faster to meet expectations. Often this combination leads them to seek our help, often through integrating organizational transformation and technology solutions. The need for talent is closely connected. Our clients need to attract top talent and find new and innovative ways to retain that talent in an increasingly competitive market.
