What is Graphic Design?

Designs are often difficult to create, as they must clearly convey information while also satisfying aesthetic goals. Now the question arises What is a Graphic design?

Graphic Design is basically an art to communicate visually. Typography, Illustrations, Photos, Painting, etc. are the various mediums to communicate visually.

There are a few rules popularly known as the Principles of Design. These principles are correlated and appear in every well designed piece of art.

Key Principles of Design are:

  • Emphasis
  • Balance
  • Alignment
  • Contrast
  • Repetition
  • Hierarchy
  • Proximity

Visual Elements when combined with Design Principles together form Graphic Design. Graphic Design is not just creating a poster or a logo infact it is how we present a piece of information for a particular purpose in a creative manner.

When we start the process of Graphic Design, one has to first understand the message or information that is required to be conveyed and then research and find a visual solution.

In Today’s era, with the evolution of Technology, Graphic Design is being vastly used for both Print and Digital Media.
